History: The Selkirk Rex breed is another new one for cat fanciers. The first kitten to be documented was in Montana in 1987. It was a female named Miss dePesto and was bred by a Persian Breeder. The coat looks like it had a body wave. This is a result of another Rex gene that is dominant and unlike either the Cornish or Devon genes.
Characteristics: They are a medium to large cat. They have heavy bone structure that makes them feel solid. Shorthairs have dense plush curls while the longhairs feature tousled dense coats
Temperament: Easy going, patient and loving are excellent ways to describe these cats. Gentle and cuddly from their Persian contributors, most people find it almost impossible not to want to pick them up and cuddle them, owners often find they can't resist. Their personalities remain kitten-like even through their adult years.
Requirements: Since these cats are quite social, they love to play. They get along well with children and other pets. Brushing two to three times per week is required for coat upkeep
