  • Available Variations: Although a white German Shepherd is available, it is immediately disqualified for shows.
  • History: German Shepherd are a relatively new recognized breed with its origins dating back to the late 1800's where attempts were made to standardize the characteristics of the breed on a greater than community level. Captain Max von Stephanitz took a number of individuals and developed the original members of the breed which were used to standardize the required characteristics. These were incorporated into a club
  • Characteristics: One of North America's leading dog breeds, they have a well earned reputation as an excellent guard dog. In addition they are very loyal and faithful pets and are often excellent companions for children as well
  • Temperament: Direct, fearless, energetic and fun-loving. The breed gets along with children once the pet has had a chance to get to know them and establish a relationship with them. A loyal family pet and a good guard dog. As a pet, they are an ideal selection as a family pet for many. As long as their requirements for regular exercise are met.
  • Space requirements: Fairly roomy area to run and exercise. Better kept in a single family dwelling with easy access to a yard and running room rather than in an apartment situation.
