Fluval Edge Aquascapes

The Fluval Edge combines elegant good looks with a solid desktop aquarium capacity able to sustain a wide variety of aquascapes. It is packaged with a podium that allows it to be placed on any solid surface, rather than requiring an aquarium stand manufactured specifically to hold it. The design is quite striking, utilizing a sealed surface with access hole at the meddle back of the fish tank to allow the external hang on Fluval Edge filter to gain access for its intake tube and to allow the overflow back into the aquarium.

The collar around the opening permits the fish tank tp be "overfilled" effectively eliminating any viewable surface and allowing unobstructed view from almost every angle of the aquarium. The most striking views are often form the top, an angle that few standard aquariums can match since most must incorporate a cover to provide light and prevent the fish from jumping. By creating a swinging light bar that can be moved out of the way, the tank provides the clean lines and impressive viewing angle rarely ever achieved previously.

The filter is powerful enough to provide good filtration to the aquarium without creating excessive currents that could be a problem for small fish. The Fluval Edge filter offers a flow of up to 378 L (100 U.S.) gallons per hour and using its patented flow control can reduce that amount to about 124 L (33 gallons) hourly. When flow is restricted, though, the full capacity is still passed through the filter media. A wide variety of fish have been kept in this 23 litre aquarium. Many small community fish, such as tetras and livebearers are quite content in the large swimming area for its capacity. Even salt water species can also be housed. Many shrimps, seahorses and even some corals have been kept in them for considerable periods. The system employs 10 W Halogen bulbs which deliver quite a bit of light to the unit, allowing the growth of both live freshwater plants as well as a number of marine macro-algae. The light bar swings up and away to allow access to the filter chamber and the collared opening in the tank. The fish are protected from jumping by the meshed cover that fits snugly over the light bar and encloses the filter as well.

Accessories available for the system include a heater that will keep the tank at its preset 78^oF. There is no adjustment for these units. As well, the Fluval's unique design required specially designed cleaning accessories, the magnet cleaners are designed to access all the internal surfaces, including the under side of the top. The special net is triangular in shape to allow capture of fish in all areas of the tank as well.

A great aquarium to consider when small size and safe desktop installation are main priorities.
